Beginning the Beijing Olympics
The Beijing Olympic games kicked off with the opening ceremonies on Friday, and now is fully underway. Here are my thoughts on the games up to this point.
The opening ceremonies were amazing to watch. I have no idea how much money China put into them, but it was a display that was over the top in every way. Of course, that is not including the fifteen hours of people marching. However the US men’s basketball team looked tight.
The United States Men’s Basketball Team
Speaking of the basketball team, that is where all my excitement and anticipation lies in this Olympics. Today’s game against China (taking place in about thirty minutes) is poised to be the most watched basketball game in history with over 1 billion viewers. The team that has been assembled is much more of a team than in recent years where is was just a randomly assembled group of all-stars. I do question Jason Kidd starting over Deron Williams or Chris Paul, but then again Kidd is undefeated in international play.
Besides the basketball team I am very excited for the probable domination by Michael Phelps. He is already underway with one gold down, up to seven more to go. Phelps is definitely the most well-known representative of the United States, so I hope he continues to fulfill expectations and bring back gold to the US.
The wave of domination known as Michael Phelps.
Another one of the well-known names is Dara Torres, though I guess when you are competing in the Olympics since 1984 people should know who you are. Torres, a dinosaur by athletic standards, picked up her tenth Olympic medal last night at the age of 41. She posted the fastest split time last night (at least according to the announcers) which should just disgrace everyone else involved. Or prove she is that good…one of the two.
Our soccer team had a very strong showing today against The Netherlands (a favorite to win the gold). They nearly pulled off a victory were it not for The Netherlands scoring a tying goal in the 93rd minute (non-soccer fans: at the last possible chance). Still the US looked stronger than I expected them to be.
Overall I am much more into the Olympics than I had anticipated. I now depart to try to catch as much of the basketball game versus China as I can. What are your thoughts on the Olympics? What events are you most looking forward to?

first and foremost, just look at that picture that is posted and look and chris bosh…..
seriously, bosh, what are you doing with your life.
second, if the team doesn’t pull gold this year it is a disgrace, and chris paul looks sick in his pic.
phelps is an animal and i look forward to watching every race that he is in. i will be disappointed if he gets anything less than 8 golds.
i am so sick of dara torres and i could not care less about her. great she’s old and she swims and doesn’t take performance enhancers. i know this may sound trivial and stupid, but this next event is a huge pet peeve of mine. everytime they talk about how she is all natural and no steriods they show pictures of her working out like everyone who takes steriods doesn’t work out and just sits there and gets huge. she could easily be taking steriods and then doing the normal thing of working out. this being said, i know she does not because all of the tests, but still its annoying because it is like she works out at the gym when everyone else does nothing (i’m not endorsing steriods because i hate them and those who cheat in sports with them…bonds….jbomb). i also think dara torres could be a lesbian. one look at her appearance and hair. two, yes i know she has a daughter, but try to remember just once, one time, that you heard announcers talk about the father. they don’t say she was divorced, or the father left, or anything. i think she is now a lesbian, seriously.
go usa, boo torres, go phelps, boo torres.
