Here We Go
As I get ready to return to school on Monday, I do have one last Christmas treat I am going to enjoy. Tonight I will be attending the Steeler game against the Jaguars.
I will be going to the game with my roommate Jesse (pictured). Also, though many think the Steelers are underdogs, this is definitely a game I see us winning. Why? There are several reasons.
Firstly, we are underdogs as I mentioned. Traditionally, the Steelers always seem to win when people start to disrespect them (and also start to lose when people think they are very good). Look at our Superbowl XL victory. We came in as the sixth seed in the playoffs, and had to go through Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Denver. We were picked to lose in all three games. The Steelers always have found a way to win when they are not supposed to do so.
Secondly, I think we are going into this game with a stronger defensive mindset. Fred Taylor absolutely embarrassed the Steelers when the two teams met a few weeks back. I know that in this game we will be committed to stopping the run, and forcing Jacksonville to win the game through the air. That is something I do not think the Jags are prepared to do. If anyone could name me Jacksonville’s go-to receiver, or for that matter any receiver with any talent, I would be impressed.
Plus, the Steelers are 1-0 in games in which I have attended. I hope to continue that streak tonight. Go Steelers.

Horrible play calling and Gerrard owning us = a loss everyone predicted.

I felt a loss coming, but definitely felt that they could have won the game after watching it. It was a disappointing end to the season.

I think we can all agree the better team won.

I do not think we can agree on that. Jacksonville looked better on paper, but the Steelers lost the league’s leading rusher and still only lost by two points. That was after their QB threw three picks in the first half. If they overcame that much against them, just imagine how bad Jacksonville would have gotten pounded if we had Willie Parker (or an offensive line).

It’s not Jacksonvilles fault that the Steelers drafted a bad quarterback who is decent in the season and absolutely horrible in the playoffs. Secondly, Fast Willy may have made a difference, as well as Starks and a 100% Polamalu, but hey, it’s football, you get hurt. Injuries are part of the game. You can’t say what if, because hey, what if Ronnie Brown didn’t get hurt? I think the Dolphins would have beaten the Steelers, and then the Steelers wouldn’t have even made the playoffs, but oh wait, if they had lost to the Dolphins then they wouldnt have started Batch against the Ravens and lost. But what if… You can keep going on forever. But enough about the Steelers and the Jags and who may or may not be better.
The only thing that’s certain about the NFL is that the NFL is definitely rigged, and also that the Patriots are going to go 19-0 and win the Superbowl. Thank you for your time.

Roethlisberger in the playoffs:
1st trip: AFC Championship 2nd trip: Superbowl Win 3rd trip: Last Saturday
I would also like to mention that those first two were his first two years in the league.

Ben Roethlisberger - All stats taken from nfl.com
Rookie Season Playoffs (2 Games): 31/54 for 407 yards. 5TDs, 3 Ints, for a rating of 61.3 in 2 games. Superbowl Game: 9/21 for 123 yards. 0 Tds and 2 Ints and a rating of 22.1 in the Superbowl (granted, his stats throughout the playoffs this year were alright, but he sucked in the bowl). 2007 Season Playoffs: 29/42 for 33 yards. 2 TDs and 3 Ints for a 79.2 rating in a loss.

did willie parker play in the first game against jacksonville? that’s an honest question i don’t know. Also i agree with xane that roethlisberger isn’t the greatest of quarterbacks, especially not in the playoffs. The year we won the superbowl was just kind of destiny even though i will give it to him, he did have some sick plays (including the one where he checked the line of scrimmage and then threw, which was a veteran play). I think roethlisberger had a great regular season this year but i think that the success of the team comes from other players more so than him. now i do excuse him a little bit for how young he is, but i would still take many other qbs over him. I hate gerrard.
