A Few of My Favorite Christmas Films

With Christmas only three days away, I am sure everyone is looking to get into the Christmas spirit with friends, relatives, and significant others. Nothing can beat Christmas music in the background and everyone gathering around the fireplace, but should you be looking for a few films to celebrate the holiday I have you covered. Here are some of my favorite Christmas movies.

Home Alone

Home Alone Who can forget the classic tale of Macaulay Culkin getting left at home to deal with two incompetent criminals? Home Alone is one of those movies that everyone has seen twenty or more times, but no one will mind watching one more time. I spent several years of my childhood trying to master the doorknob temperature test that Joe Pesci performs in the film after getting burned earlier. You would think after an eight-year-old rigs a blowtorch to burn off your scalp that it would be time to call it quits, but the wet bandits cannot seem to get enough pain in this classic.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Out of all the Christmas claymation classics, Rudolph is my favorite. I love the story and the laughs, but when all is said and done the best thing about the movie is the Abominable Snowman. I prefer Mr.Rudolph over the other “original Christmas classics,” but Frosty the Snowman is a close second.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Holidays aside, this is one of the best animated films ever created. The Grinch has become a piece of American culture, a symbol everyone recognizes as evil. Dr.Seuss’s rhyming story of Christmas in Whoville still holds its own even after all these years (it originally aired in 1966). The song “You’re a Mean One, Mr.Grinch” is hilariously genius in its delivery. I only ask that everyone wipe their memory of the Jim Carrey live-action remake, and we instead dwell on this cartoon piece of history.

Christmas Vacation

Christmas Vacation To close out my list I had to include the film that I laugh just as hard at every single year. Chevy Chase stars in Christmas Vacation, one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Instead of looking at the heart-warming side of the holiday, we get a picture of how everything can go wrong with the stress of shopping and visiting relatives, and even S.W.A.T. teams. The movie is brilliantly over the top with absurdity and slapstick humor. Cousin Eddie alone puts this movie on my favorites list. If you want to laugh your way to December 25th, I recommend this non-family-friendly riot.

These are a few of my favorite Christmas movies, but I am sure there are some that I missed. Let me know what you think of the list in the comments, and have a Merry Christmas.

  1. I have equally enjoyed all of those Christmas classics, except I have never seen Christmas Vacation. I would add Miracle on 34th Street, A White Christmas and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. In regards to the last film, who couldn’t enjoy a movie with a character named Burgermeister Meisterburger?

  2. I also like The Year without Santa Claus, especially scenes with Heat Miser and Snow Miser.

  3. i agree with you and michelle, but i would add its a wonderful life. i hate christmas vacation. thank you jc for not putting christmas story on your list. that is the creepiest worst christmas movie ever. nothing gets me out of the cozy christmas spirit like 24hours of that terrible movie. thank you TBS.

  4. i just watched my sister write the comment about christmas vacation and i had to rep the beitler family by saying christmas vacation is a sweet movie. she is sometimes retarded.

  5. It’s A Wonderful Life is easily the greatest Christmas movie of all time. It’s very disappointing to not see it on here. Also, Jingle All the Way with Governor Arnold is a hilarious Christmas film.
