Film Review: The Bourne Ultimatum
In the world of film, sequels rarely do their predecessors justice. The Matrix is a great example of a great film with sequels gone wrong. With this in mind, a third sequel has an even lower success rate. Many have fallen victim to this truth, such as The Matrix (again), and more recently Spider-Man 3, and Shrek the Third. The Bourne Ultimatum is the third and final installment in the Bourne series–and it has no room for convention.
The intricate plotline of the amnesic and deadly Jason Bourne finally comes to a conclusion in Ultimatum. The story has been blurred to the audience even over two films, much like the fragile memory of Bourne himself. It has always been intriguing though, captivating us in its mystery. The action-infused story hits its high note here, as it not only concludes the global adventure, but also answers the questions from Identity and Supremacy.
To fully enjoy all the action and espionage, it helps to have at least a general recollection of the first two films, but Ultimatum can stand on its own as a superb thriller. It does an excellent job of helping to joggle the memories of long-time fans, as well as introduce new viewers to its world. Its gripping story about Jason Bourne and his quest is so engrossing that its runtime is not even noticeable.
Part of the reason for this is that the action does not let up. For the entire film the pace almost never breaks, from roof-jumping to assassination to the series trademark driving sequences. Ultimatum is a tight, exhilarating thrill-ride, yet also manages to deliver a dramatic, moving narrative in accompaniment. The experience will leave you breathless as you exit the theater. All of this is portrayed through the wonderful acting of Damon and his co-stars.
Ultimatum rises as the crowning achievement of a series that has amazingly gotten better with each addition. While Pirates 3, Spider-Man 3, and Shrek 3 were all disappointing, hollow shells of their forerunners, Bourne leaves us with his most invigorating adventure yet. The ending to this nearly perfect series is wholly satisfying, particularly for those who have seen the previous films. This intense, jaw-dropping, and sometimes even hilarious thriller is an absolute must-see.

You, and Faith don’t know what you’re talking about. This movie is easily on par with the first two. No better, no worse.

Ultimatum is a more polished film then either of the first two. The formula is intact, but it is perfected here. The fight and action scenes, as well as the story, are the best in the third of the series.

The fist and action scenes are good, but the shaky camera technique got to be too much (in the main fighting scene especially). They got lost in their technique. The shakiness during the entire movie was annoying, but tolerable. The main combat scene, though awesome, was painful to watch due to the extreme camera movement. I was seriously annoyed while I watched it.
The movie as a whole was still quality, though.
